We are looking for Five Local Communications Support Officers to join our amazing Media Relations team.
Location: Homebased -within the region of London, West Midlands and North West
Salary: £26,918 per annum, Band D, Level 3.
Term: Fixed Term - 18 Months
Working Hours: 35 hours per week - Will need to visit Gilwell 6/8 times per year

About the Support Officer Role:
As Local Communications Support Officer you’ll play a key role in a busy team, being a vital link between on-the-ground volunteers and the UK-wide communications staff team based out of Gilwell Park, in Chingford Essex. You will be working with staff and volunteer teams in local communities. You’ll train and support volunteers with communication that helps attract new adult volunteers and young people to form new Scout groups. You will be supporting, motivating and working collaboratively with teams of volunteers to increase Scouts’ visibility locally.
What we are looking for in our Support Officer:
Proven ability to work with volunteers and support training and development
Confident verbal communicator who can negotiate and influence ideas
An awareness and understanding of socio economic barriers faced by minority communities that may impact engagement
You have experience of supporting and developing volunteers, with an understanding of communications.
Experience of building trusted relationships in a community
Experience of collaborating in diverse teams of people who are not all in the same location
Motivated to learn, can absorb information quickly and accept and act on constructive feedback
An approachable personality who responds to stakeholders needs
Adaptable and flexible in responding to changing priorities and feedback
Key responsibilities as our Support Officer:
Work in partnership with volunteer teams to support and motivate them develop the profile of Scouts in their communities, especially with new audiences
Deliver local communication campaigns to support new Scout Groups opening
Give training and guidance on social media, media relations, and local advocacy
Seek out inspiring stories about Scouts. Research and develop these stories, write press materials and create social media content, and pitch the stories to the most appropriate community media outlets.
Support local and regional communications campaigns focused on the opening of new Scout Groups
Champion effective communications practice and help volunteer teams learn from each other, and share your insights with the UK-wide team
Support the broader work of Scouts, including attending monthly collaboration days at Gilwell Park, out of hours working and travel in the UK as required.
Undertake other duties or special projects as defined by the Media Relations Manager.
